AQR Capital Chooses Scalent Systems Software for High Availability, Infrastructure Virtualization

Scalent V/OE Will Enable AQR to Failover Bare Metal Servers and Associated Network & Storage Connectivity in Real-Time, Without Data Path Risk and Overhead Imposed by Hypervisors

PALO ALTO, CA-- January 29, 2009 - Scalent Systems, the leader in real-time management and automation software for virtual and physical data center infrastructure, today announced that AQR Capital, a global investment management firm, has chosen Scalent Virtual Operating Environment (V/OE) software to enable high availability and infrastructure virtualization in their data centers. Scalent V/OE will enable AQR to failover bare metal servers and associated network & storage connectivity in real-time, without data path risk and overhead imposed by hypervisors, increasing reliability and performance while reducing overall costs.

Today's data centers face escalating costs, security, and reaction-time challenges stemming from out-of-control server sprawl, statically allocated server hardware, and mixed physical and virtual environments. These challenges result in higher costs and a lack of IT agility in the face of rapidly changing operational demands.

Scalent V/OE addresses all of these challenges by allowing IT managers to rapidly provision entire virtual or physical systems and associated storage and network topologies -- yielding higher asset utilization and drastically lower costs.

Additionally, Scalent V/OE provides functionality complementary to hypervisor-based solutions. Unlike hypervisors, Scalent V/OE operates on bare-metal or virtual servers, and is outside of the server data-path -- data flowing to and from servers doesn't pass through Scalent in any way, and is thus free of any overhead or failure risk imposed by Scalent.

"AQR investment products span a range of instruments, and all depend on high availability. We couldn't afford the risk and performance penalty imposed by hypervisors in production," said Ismail Coskun, Head of Infrastructure and Development, AQR Capital. "Scalent V/OE software gave us even greater flexibility to move bare-metal production-grade servers, as well as addressing the associated connectivity, while preserving the option to move between physical and virtual (P2V or V2P) in real-time if we chose. They were the obvious choice to maintain high availability in our data center server farm."

"Scalent brings real-time, bare-metal or virtualized agility and flexibility to data centers, without data path risk or performance impact," said Chandy Nilakantan, CTO of Scalent Systems. "Only Scalent lets high-performance environments like AQR's data center react and change full topologies -- server, software, network and storage connectivity -- in response to business needs, in minutes."

About Scalent

Scalent Systems is the leading provider of Real-time Management and Automation software for virtual and physical infrastructure to data centers worldwide. Scalent's software enables data centers to react to changing business needs by dynamically changing what servers are running and how those servers are connected to network and storage. The result is a real-time infrastructure, where data centers can transition between different configurations -- or from dead bare metal to live connected servers -- in five minutes or less, without physical intervention. Using Scalent software, companies have been able to implement cost-effective solutions while reducing server counts, simplifying manageability, and increasing reliability. Many of the Fortune 1000 companies rely on Scalent to support their success, having adopted the software as an integral part of their business continuity, QA test infrastructure automation, and IT operations. Scalent Systems is based in Palo Alto, with offices worldwide. Scalent's software is available globally both direct and through partners and resellers. Learn more at http://www.scalent.com.
